Heidebrecht Family Page

My line of the Heidebrecht Family has been traced back to 1721 in the area of Grossmausdorf, Grosswerder, Prussia. This information has been mainly gathered through the Grandma3 CD. This is an invaluable tool to those of you who are searching your Mennonite Genealogy.

Peter Heidebrecht, born: abt. 1720 died: November 1770, Krebsfelde, Prussia - married Katharina Braun, born: March 1721 died: November 11, 1777, Grossmausdorf, Grosswerder, Prussia. Their children were:

  1. Abraham Heydebrecht, died before 1776 in Neustaedterwald, Amt. Tiegenhof, Prussia
  2. Peter Heidebrecht, married Anna Fast
  3. Johann Heidebrecht, died 1776 in Czattkau, Prussia, married Agneta Wiebe
  4. Agneta Heidebrecht, married Peter Wiebe
  5. Jacob Heidebrecht, born abt. 1747, died 9-22-1785. Married Catharina Fast
  6. Peter Heidebrecht

Abraham Heydebrecht was married to an unidentified woman. We do know that she remarried after his death in 1776. She married Michael Loewen. The new family can be located in the 1776 census. Their children were:

  1. Abraham Abraham Heidebrecht, born 1764 in Prussia. Died 1833, Fischau Molotschna, So Russia. Married Helena Wiens
  2. Cornelius Heidebrecht, born abt. 1764 in Krebsfelde, Prussia. Died 1861, Hierschau, Molotschna, So Russia
  3. Gerhard Heidebrecht, born abt. 1767. Died October 28, 1828 in Klein Mausdorferweide, Prussia. Married Margaretha Dyck

Cornelius Heidebrecht's occupation was as a builder. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Maria Warkentin, born abt. 1765. She was the daughter of Dirk Warkentin. Together they had the following children:

  1. Peter Heidebrecht, born 1791, died before 1813
  2. Justina Heidebrecht, born abt. 1794
  3. Cornelius Cornelius Heidebrecht, born 1806 in Schoensee, Molotschna, So Russia

Cornelius's second marriage was to Anna Thielmann, born June 22, 1781 in Schidlitz, Danzig, Prussia. This marriage produced the following children:

  1. Peter Heidebrecht, born June 5, 1813, Muntau, Molotschna, So Russia. Died March 12, 1902 in Hoffnungsau, McPherson County, Kansas
  2. Katharina Heidebrecht, born 1815 in Schoensee, Molotschna, So Russia

Peter Heidebrecht was married to Cornelia Suckau on March 10, 1835. She was born March 10, 1810 in Prussia. She would die January 2, 1889 in Hoffnungsau, McPherson County, Kansas. With the exception of their daughter Katharina and their son Cornelius, the entire family would arrive in New York on September 3, 1874 aboard the ship "Teutonia". Cornelius would remain in Russia and Katharina would arrive one month earlier with her husband and family. Children of Peter and Cornelia are:

  1. Peter Heidebrecht, born January 14, 1835 in Tiegerweide, Molotschna, So Russia. Died February 10, 1928 in Liberal, Kansas. Peter was a minister in the Alexanderwohl "gemeinde" (Parish) in the Ukraine. His ministry continued in the US. A story is told of him that the gemeinde gave him a new overcoat as a present of appreciation. He met a Russian man without a coat and gave it to him because he still had his old one. Some members of the gemeinde thought he could at least have given him the old one. Married to Elisabeth Nachtigall.
  2. Cornelius Heidebrecht, born November 30, 1835 in Tiegerweide, Molotschna, So Russia. Died July 23, 1876 in Waldheim, Molotschna, So Russia.
  3. Anna (Lizzie Anna) Heidebrecht, born March 11, 1845 in Tiegerweide, Molotschna, So Russia. Died March 10, 1916 in Hoffnungsau, McPherson County, Kansas. Married Peter Sperling.
  4. Katharina Heidebrecht, born February 13, 1847 in Waldheim, Molotschna, So Russia. Died February 24, 1916 in Reno County, Kansas.
  5. Johann Heidebrecht, born August 26, 1850 in Waldheim, Molotschna, So Russia. Died July 8, 1923 in Corn, Oklahoma. Married Katharina Richert
  6. Cornelia Heidebrecht, born November 15, 1852 in Waldheim, Molotschna, So Russia. Died December 24, 1931 in McPherson, Kansas. Married Cornelius Voth.
